Mind Chatters Won’t go away

Ai generated image of a person busy with mind chatter and yet works in reality

What to do with mind chatter that refuses to fade, even for someone who meditates and cherishes minimalism?

Mind chatter is stubborn. It arrives quietly, uninvited, and before you know it, even the simple awareness of your breath slips away. Meditation promises peace, yet some days the internal dialogue feels louder than ever.

My days are layered. I shift between roles and worlds. At work, immersed fully, home fades into the background. At home, I navigate family responsibilities, dealing with basics and emotions. Then, in quiet moments of leisure, personal desires and attachments (the eternal moh and maya) surface softly, nudging my heart and mind in gentle conflict.

Morning arrives, and on my 15 km commute, each of the eight traffic lights seems like a checkpoint for contemplation—purpose or pleasure? Routine or aspiration? Duty or dreams? The questions swirl, becoming louder with each pause, each red signal.

Some mornings, clarity shines through: “This is my goal. Immediate and clear.” Yet, other days, an existential whisper creeps in, asking, “Am I merely meant to repeat routines, to make a living?”

Maybe the chatter isn’t meant to vanish completely. Perhaps it’s a signpost—a reminder to balance my purpose with moments of pleasure, to recognize the quiet truths whispered amidst life’s chaos.

And perhaps, the real practice isn’t silencing the mind entirely but learning to gently live alongside the chatter, acknowledging it with patience and kindness, as part of the human journey itself.
